FAQ CATEGORY 01

Getting Started

What is Floor Planner?

Floor Planner is a browser-based flooring takeoff and workflow platform. It is designed to take a project from floor planning and material quantities through vinyl cutting optimisation, quoting and installer handover.

Who is Floor Planner designed for?

Floor Planner is designed for commercial flooring businesses, estimators, business owners, installers and retail or DIY users who need to create a floor plan, calculate flooring quantities or request a flooring quote.

Do I need to install Floor Planner on my computer?

No. Floor Planner is designed to run through a web browser, so the main workflow does not require a traditional Windows desktop software installation.

Can I use Floor Planner for commercial flooring projects?

Yes. Floor Planner supports commercial project workflows including takeoff, product assignment, vinyl cut planning, business pricing, Quote Magic, team permissions and Installer Job Packs.

Can retail or DIY users use Floor Planner?

Yes. Retail users can use the floor planning workflow and can request a professional flooring quote without being given access to a business's commercial pricing.

Does Floor Planner save my projects?

Yes. Projects can be saved to the user's account so they can be reopened and continued later rather than being tied to a single browser session.

FAQ CATEGORY 02

Floor Plans & Measuring

What can I draw in a Floor Planner project?

A project can be built from rooms, walls, doors and connected areas so the flooring takeoff reflects the actual job geometry.

Can a project contain multiple rooms?

Yes. Multi-room projects can be created and kept together as one job, which is important when material direction, shared products, quoting and installation information need to remain connected.

Can different rooms use different flooring products?

Yes. Products can be assigned by room, allowing a project to contain different materials and specifications within the same floor plan.

Does Floor Planner calculate room area?

Yes. Floor Planner uses the project geometry to calculate floor area and other measurements used by the takeoff and quoting workflow.

Can doors and openings be included in the plan?

Yes. Doors and openings form part of the project geometry and can also matter to vinyl seam and installation planning.

Can I edit the floor plan after I have started a project?

Yes. The floor plan can be revised as the job changes, with the updated geometry then feeding into the downstream takeoff and workflow.

Can I use the same project for takeoff and quoting?

Yes. One of Floor Planner's core design goals is to keep the floor plan, quantities, quote and installer information connected to the same project.

FAQ CATEGORY 03

Sheet Vinyl & Cutting Magic

How does Floor Planner calculate sheet vinyl?

Floor Planner uses the room geometry together with the selected roll width and cutting rules to calculate an actual sheet-vinyl layout. This allows it to report both the floor area and the linear metres required from the roll.

Why is the floor area different from the amount of vinyl I need to buy?

Floor area measures the surface being covered, while sheet vinyl is purchased from a fixed-width roll. Room shape, seam position, installation direction, offcuts and installer allowances can increase the number of linear metres required.

What is Cutting Magic?

Cutting Magic is Floor Planner's vinyl cutting and optimisation workflow. It turns room geometry into installable pieces and searches for layouts that reduce material usage while respecting the rules applied to the job.

Can Floor Planner automatically optimise vinyl cuts?

Yes. Floor Planner can compare alternative cutting arrangements and packing options to find efficient layouts for the selected vinyl product and roll width.

Can Floor Planner keep pieces from the same room together?

Yes. Sort by Room is designed to keep room pieces organised together, which can make cutting and installation easier to follow.

Can Floor Planner mix compatible pieces from different rooms to save vinyl?

Yes. Cross Room optimisation can allow compatible pieces from different rooms to share roll space where doing so is permitted by the project rules.

What is Best Sort?

Best Sort searches alternative valid cutting arrangements and compares their material usage. It is intended to find a more efficient layout while still respecting the installation constraints applied to the project.

Can I choose the vinyl roll width?

Yes. The selected roll width is a fundamental part of the vinyl calculation and cut layout.

Can a project contain more than one vinyl product?

Yes. Multi-material projects can contain multiple vinyl products, with quantities and cut information kept separate by product.

Does Floor Planner show the cut pieces individually?

Yes. Cut-list output can identify individual pieces and relate them back to the rooms and material they belong to.

FAQ CATEGORY 04

Seams, Direction & Installation Rules

Can I control the direction the vinyl runs?

Yes. Installation direction can be controlled, including horizontal and vertical orientations where appropriate.

Can Floor Planner compare horizontal and vertical vinyl layouts?

Yes. Compatible orientations can be compared so the estimator can see whether one direction produces a better material result.

Can I force a room to stay in one direction?

Yes. Direction can be forced where the visual or installation requirement is more important than allowing the optimiser to choose.

Can connected rooms keep the same grain or pattern direction?

Yes. Direction groups can link rooms that need to maintain the same installation direction or grain relationship.

Can I stop a room from being split?

Yes. A Do Not Split rule can be applied to rooms where a continuous piece is required, subject to the physical roll width and room geometry.

Can Floor Planner avoid seams through doorways?

Yes. Doorway seam restrictions can be used as part of the vinyl installation rules so the optimiser does not place a seam where the project does not allow one.

Can I manually move or add seams?

Yes. The standard seam grid can be adjusted and additional seams can be added separately, allowing the estimator to refine the automated layout for unusual geometry or installation requirements.

FAQ CATEGORY 05

Material Quantities, Waste & Allowances

Does Floor Planner show both square metres and linear metres?

Yes. Floor area and roll-based material requirement are treated as different measurements so the estimator can see the covered area as well as the amount of sheet material that needs to be ordered.

Does Floor Planner calculate waste?

Floor Planner can show the difference between the true floor area and the material used by the selected cut layout, helping the estimator understand the effect of roll width, room shape and cutting decisions.

What is Required – True Material Only?

Required – True Material Only represents the geometric material needed to cover the project without adding the practical fitting allowances used for production.

What is Production – Installer Allowance?

Production – Installer Allowance includes additional material used for practical cutting, trimming and fitting so the production requirement can differ from the exact room geometry.

Can installer allowances be changed?

Yes. Allowance settings can be configured so the production cut reflects the way the business or installer wants pieces prepared.

Can Floor Planner calculate seam or weld quantities?

Yes. Seam measurements can be used by the project and Quote Magic workflow for related products such as weld rod where those rules have been configured.

FAQ CATEGORY 06

Products & Pricing

Can a flooring business upload or maintain its own products?

Yes. Business product and pricing information can be maintained for the organisation so authorised estimators work from the same product set.

Can different businesses have different pricing?

Yes. Pricing belongs to the business account, allowing each organisation to maintain its own commercial pricing rather than sharing one platform-wide rate.

Can installers see products without seeing prices?

Yes. Products-only access is designed for team members who need product and installation information but should not receive the business's commercial pricing.

Is pricing hidden only in the browser interface?

No. Pricing permissions are enforced by the backend so restricted users are not simply relying on visually hidden price fields.

Can pricing be used directly by Quote Magic?

Yes. Authorised business pricing and product rules can be used when project quantities are turned into quote lines.

FAQ CATEGORY 07

Quote Magic

What is Quote Magic?

Quote Magic is Floor Planner's quoting workflow. It uses the project takeoff, product information and configured business rules to turn measurements into a working flooring quote.

Can Floor Planner create quote lines automatically?

Yes. Quote rules can use project quantities and measurements to create relevant material, labour and related product lines.

Can products automatically trigger other quote items?

Yes. Business rules can be configured so a flooring product or calculated measurement can add associated materials or work items to the quote.

Can the estimator change an automatically generated quote?

Yes. Automation does not remove estimator control. The quote can be reviewed and adjusted before it is published or sent.

Can Quote Magic use measurements such as perimeter or seam length?

Yes. Measurement-driven rules can be used for products or work items that depend on quantities such as perimeter, seam length or other calculated project measurements.

Does a quote remain connected to the original project?

Yes. The quoting workflow is designed to remain associated with the project that produced the quantities, reducing the need to rebuild the job in a separate quoting system.

Can a quote be published before an installer Job Pack is created?

Yes. The Job Pack workflow is based on the approved or published project and quote information, allowing the business to control when installation information is generated.

FAQ CATEGORY 08

Installer Job Packs & PDFs

What is an Installer Job Pack?

An Installer Job Pack is a site-focused version of the job that can contain products, quantities, room information and installation guidance without exposing the commercial quote.

Does an Installer Job Pack show my rates or margins?

No. The Job Pack is designed as a non-financial projection of the job and excludes commercial rates, margins, profit, GST and quote totals.

Can I choose which quote items appear in a Job Pack?

Yes. Job Pack selection can be controlled so relevant materials and installation items are included while unrelated or commercial-only lines are left out.

Can the Job Pack be included in the project PDF?

Yes. The Job Pack can be included with the project's cut-list and visual output so the installer can receive one combined job document.

What can be included in the cut-list PDF?

Depending on the project, the PDF can include roll summaries, cut pieces, room or polygon information, floor-plan views, 3D information and an optional Installer Job Pack.

Can multi-material projects be shown in the PDF?

Yes. Multi-material projects can include separate roll and cut information for each relevant flooring product.
